Vintage Viola d'Amore from the workshop of Josef Oplustil with Case, Rare!
The instrument was part of a collection of early music instruments purchased by a fine lady whom we knew for more than six decades. No longer, alas, among the living and that means we’ve promised the estate that we’d find new homes for the instruments.
Label reads:
"Jofef Oplufttl (Josef Oplustil)
Mufikinftrumente (Musikinstrumente)
Marienbad"
Very rare Viola D'Amore from Josef Oplustil, who was a stringed instrument maker who lived in Marienbad in Bohemia (now modern day Mariánské Lázně in the Czech Republic) in the early 20th century. This instrument shows fine workmanship; please see pictures of the top, sides and back, and note the flame holes and head. Light brown color on this one. Has 6 playing strings (bowed), with 6 sympathetic strings underneath. Would be ideal for an early music/Baroque ensemble, or for a collector.
