Vintage Selmer "Soloist" Bb Clarinet, made in the USA; serial #25844
Just to be sure you know.. Selmer-France was owned, until recently, by the Selmer family; Selmer-USA was, until several decades ago, a separate firm, originally owned by George Bundy and others.Selmer-France built the pro-model clarinets and Selmer-USA did all the entry-level and "step-up" clarinets. The "Selmer Signet" clarinets were made for advanced students, their were two models offered: if an instrument was built with superior wood, it became a "Soloist " Signet. That means the wood was a little better, the tenons were fitted with nickel end-caps, the clarinet was fitted with a pro-model French mouthpiece and a case that was almost the same as the French instruments of the 1970's. And the keys were chrome (not nickel) plated, so they stay clean and shiny forever. The example we've posted today is perfect, looks and plays like a new one. We've fitted it with all new pads and corks and have found it to play very well indeed. Not for symphony work, but the perfect "band clarinet" for an advanced player. All wood, no cracks, looks and plays like a new one and made in the USA.
