- This rare and superb tenor is one small part of items from the estate of a lady whom we knew for more than six decades.
- Photos can't begin to show the beauty of the wood and the evidence of hand-tuning. The Dolmetsch workshop in Haslemere was among the first to produce modern examples of renaissance instruments. But please be advised that the tone color on these beauties is quite different from real historical copies that are created by the Von Heune family and others. Simply said, it's a full-bodied instrument that is not reedy or bright but rather full and dark. You find no original museum recorders that were copied by Dolmetch.
- Having said as much, I note that the high notes speak very well, with no hesitation on the high D / C# / C.
- As nearly as we've been informed, production was in 1975/76 and the final voicing would probably have been done by Carl Dolmetsch himself. Serial # is 20753.
- NOT for everybody, but perfect for a quartet of amateurs or just an individual who desires a gorgeous example of post-war recorder production.
- Keep tuned, if you would.... I've another eight or nine yet to be posted on our Website. Or phone us for more information about tuning or anything else.
