A superb "THE MARTIN COMMITTEE" tenor saxophone, made in Elkhart in 1947-48; serial #163,320.
Our tenor has never been seriously dented or damaged, no pull-down to the neck. The lacquer is absolutely original, worn maybe 10%. All pads and corks are new, the key pearls sharp, not worn.
Yes, it has soldered tone-holes, like the best "handmade" Haynes and Powell flutes.
But don't please try to compare a post-war Martin with a modern instrument.
Years ago, Martin's saxes were considered a good alternative to French Selmers and also to Conn Lady Face models. I had a couple of high school buddies who played Martin tenors and argued that the smooth and sophisticated tone was the best.
Never any problems with intonation or low notes on Martin tenors. Dead dependable instruments, 100% American-made.
Do a Google search and you'll learn that a handful of pro players did use Martins. Earl Bostic and especially Art Pepper used Martin altos. And Tex Beneke (Miller band...) plus Buddy Lucas swore by their tenors.
So....perfect for "Big Band", for sax quartet, for solo or lounge-playing like they used to do in Las Vegas.
