BUFFET-CRAMPON (PARIS),An early Boehm system conical cocuswood flute, circa 1850.
Mostly known for their clarinets, Buffet produced a handful of other superb instruments in the 19th. century.
Nickel ring-system “1832” keywork, C foot.
Embouchure measures 9.5 X 11.4 mm.
Sounding length is 595 mm. Total length is 686 mm.
The flute plays well at A = 435 pitch.
All parts are original, no alterations have been made.
Case is from the 1950's.
Please note an almost identical instrument is depicted in the Lenski / Ventzke book “Das goldene Zeitalter der Floete”. Their flute is cited as having ebony body; our flute has been constructed of dark grenadilla.
It’s an early Boehm-system French instrument that plays well, is somewhat rare, quite original.
