New Alexander 103 "Soldered ,Lot 0.45" Detachable Bell Flare in Yellow Brass, Lacquered
New French horn bell flare from Alexander in Mainz, Germany. It's is a special order option for their model 103 double horn.
The bell flare is yellow brass with detachable 1/2 ring that will fit any modern Alexander 103 French horn with detachable bell and standard Alexander bell ring.
Inscribed "Lot 0.45" on the ring.
Alexander provides the following description of this bell flare:
"Soldered flare: is made from a certain cut sheet of brass (like a spout is made) and soldered together. First it is hammered by hand to the form (shape). During this process it is always annealed in order to get a soft structure so it can be deformed. The final steps are made on the lathe like it is done with the other flares as well. With this flare you see a seam on the flare. We can offer this with thicknesses of 0.45 and 0.5mm. My impression is that the 0.45 is more common. This flare changes the response and has a little bit less center on each note. But they are similar weight as the standard flares since the thickness of the metal is more consistent all over the shape."
