LARRIVEE GUITARS Click Here for the Larrivee home page Made in Vancouver, Canada, top quality, all solid wood guitars. Jean Larrivee built his first guitar for the simplest of reasons: he was studying the classic guitar, and he needed a better instrument than he could afford. So when Edgar Monch offered to teach him how to build his own, he jumped at the opportunity. He didn't know then that he would discover a passion for building guitars which would eclipse his love of playing. In the thirty years that have passed since, Jean has built some of the world's most sought after instruments, renown for their meticulous craftsmanship, sparkling sound, and roadworthy toughness. His guitars have earned the respect and love of musicians all over the world. Their sound has made them a common sight in the recording studios of Nashville, while their beauty moved the curators of the Musee Canadien des Civilisation to acquire one for their permanent collection. A fine guitar often seems to possess an element of magic, but the process of building it is very down-to-earth. There are no secret recipes or mystery ingredients. It's woodworking. You hone your designs, you build with the best raw materials, and you assemble each individual piece with care and precision. Do this consistently and you'll produce fine guitars. Do it efficiently and you'll produce affordable guitars. Because a fine instrument only fulfills it's purpose when a musician can afford to buy it. Jean has never been content to copy other builders' designs. Very early in his career he began experimenting, evolving a design that has both a strong, balanced sound, and the structural integrity to last a lifetime. The symmetrical bracing pattern that he pioneered is the culmination of those experiments. This subtle, but significant, refinement gives Larrivee guitars their unique sound: crisp, focused, and bright; without the boominess commonly associated with scalloped-braced designs. While Jean's early training stressed traditional construction methods, he has always been an enthusiastic innovator. Today, machines and techniques he developed can be found in many of the world's guitar factories. But whether a method is high-tech or traditional, the goal is always the same: to make it better, to make it more efficiently. We've learned that efficiency and quality, far from being at odds, go hand-in-hand. Today, many components are produced by computer-controlled machines, at tolerances impossible to achieve using hand methods. These precision parts are then hand-assembled and finished by skilled craftspeople. The result? Judge for yourself. We take great pride in the guitars we produce, and with good reason. We know what we put into them. But in the end, it's your ears, hands, and eyes that must discover that little element of magic in every Larrivee guitar. LARRIVEE GUITARS
